Link Africa (Pty) Ltd has a vacancy of Network Operations Specialist in the Operations team within the KZN Office.

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering Diploma, OR
  • CISCO CCNA / CCNP, OR
  • Other Networking Systems Qualification

Experience Requirements:

  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in Telecom network field operations, with responsible for managing:
    • Network/Services _ MTTR
    • Network/Services _ MTTI
    • Network/Services _ QA and ATP
    • Network/Services _ Proactive Maintenance
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in working on the following technologies:
    • Layer-2 (switching and transmission)
    • Layer-1 (Fibre, GPON and Transmission)
    • AC and DC Power 1st line maintenance

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate acceptance testing and commissioning results for fibre, equipment and services
  • Draft specifications, design network technical solutions and compile technical reports
  • Manage network upgrades and replacement
  • Carrying out network studies and making recommendations based on results
  • Provide L1, L2 and Basic Power training to regional staff
  • Provide technical support in OPS Projects
  • Provide High-level expert technical assistance to Regional staff on request
  • QA Implementation, provision and configuring of all relevant devices
  • Consult and liaise with management on a regular basis regarding the requirements of all services being integrated on the network
  • Accountable for ensuring record accuracy (Site files, Site drawings, etc.)
  • As part of the escalation matrix, ensure rapid restoration of all failures within the region
  • Manage contractors, technicians and other personnel involved in maintaining or installing infrastructure
  • Inspect sites, ascertain their condition and verify the accuracy of records of routine maintenance and channel allocations
  • Identify shortfalls in technician’s training, tools and equipment and conduct on-the-job training or recommend courses and equipment/tools.
  • Keep record of all services utilized on his/her region and where there is additional capacity for services to be sold
  • Keep track of all customer services and assist where necessary in planning and upgrading their services ensuring the required services levels.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good knowledge of optic fibre and its capabilities
  • An understanding of the different transmission layers used in the industry
  • An in-depth knowledge of optical equipment
  • Ability to read and understand installation plans
  • Good computer skills
